Bird to Prey: Bio

"Low Fi indi pop, Bird to Prey frey's her feyness with sudden brief bursts of energy"  - CMJ Music Marathon 08

After leaving her home of 6 years, the remote town of Fremantle Western Australia, Sarah Turk, also known as Bird to Prey is currently based in the less isolated city of New York.

A traveller at heart Sarah originally hails from Adelaide, South Australia. She packed up her van in 2003, and drove across the lonely Nullarbor where she arrived in the port city of Fremantle not knowing a single soul. She began writing songs inspired by her remoteness and isolation and once she began performing it didn't take long for her to establish herself a reputation as a powerful yet fragile performer whose shows were a joy to watch.

Sarah has come a long way since those wide eyed days and taken her music all over the world, performing in Toronto, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and Ireland. She has had the honour of supporting the likes of Jeff Lang, Teddy Thompson (Son of folk legend Richard Thompson) Dom Mariani (The Stems), Jeff Martin (The Tea Party) and the New Pornographers. She attended the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City in October 08, and performed at NXNE in Toronto in 09.

‘We are not kings here’ is Bird to Prey’s debut independent album which was released in Nov 2008. We are not kings here is available through www.birdtoprey.com

A new album is currently in the works.

At times seeming to pinch melodies from Heartbreaker-era Ryan Adams or early Tom Waits, and who could blame her, her minimalist guitar playing and swagger served her balladry brilliantly.” – Drum Media
